200708 - Month-end Review
26 Trades Total. 9 Win, 17 Losses
- I had a slight improvement this month, managing almost 35% winning rate
- I continued to be selective with my entries, but it appears that my selections/decisions still lacked quality
- I had three earned more than 3Rs, and these were the trades that kept me afloat throughout the month
- Meanwhile, I managed a few times this month to exit my losing trades to avoid a full 1R lost. In fact I only had 1 trade in this past month that is a full 1R lost
- My performance is still unacceptable! There's still room for improvement!

200707 - Month-end Review
- I managed only 10 trades this month because of 2 week-long business trip that drove me away from my desk
- I have also tried to be more selective in my trades (although it doesn't appear so if you look my entires this month), and therefore, even on the days that traded, I made very few trades
- Overall, I don't feel that I have improved much in trading during this past month
- Instead, I even think I'm trading worse that I used to
- Sometimes I even felt like I just wanted to make an entry to get involved... sort of like out of boredom. This is definitely something that I need to address
- About the only positive note from July's trading is that I managed to limit my lost
- My biggest loser of the month was -0.66%; My biggest winner was a +1.34%
- Now I just need to work hard, and improve on my entries!

200706 - Month-end Review
After a very slow month of May (in terms of my own trading opportunities) because of those stupid weeks-long meetings at work, I hurried to get back into action during the month of June.
11 Wins & 28 Losses
I executed a total of 39 trades during the month of June. With 28 Losses, my winning percentage for the month was a mere 28.21%. Compared to my 33% win-rate in May, and a 62% win-rate in April, my performance is certainly going downhill.
Fortunately, Trader Jamie, from Wall St. Warrior, provided a lot of advices towards the last 2 weeks of the month, which had helped me to at least learn what I am doing wrong. Just look at the long Lower Shadow from the graph above!
Overall, I suffered a -1.54% lost from my bankroll, that started with $40k (Paper!) However, I feel that the amount of knowledge that I've gained in this past month is worth a whole lot more than the -1.54% Paper-loss! I absolutely look forward to another month of trading.
The Graph
Just for fun, I decided to add a few columns into my Excel Spreadsheet and turn my Profit/Loss into a Candlestick chart. I thought my 3 Readers of this blog might have a laugh about it. I tried, but couldn't find a way to incorporate a Moving Average on top of the Candlestick, in Excel. I guess Excel just doesn't provide such advance graphing feature. Unless something drastic happens, I should continue to update my chart on a monthly basis... during the Month-end Review. I hope you all like it!
Until next post, best wishes to you!

200705 - Month-end Review (Paper)
I did not trade much during the month of May, mostly due to a very hectic schedule at work. I was stuck in a week-long meeting earlier this month, and a few more day-long meetings really took out most trading days from this month.
3 wins and 6 losses
In summary, I traded only 5 days in May. May 15, 16, & 17, and May 22 & 24. From these 5 days of trading, I executed 9 trades totaled. Among these 9 trades, there were only 3 wins (33%) and 6 losses (66%).
Biggest winner and loser
Among the 3 winning trades, my biggest winner was the (SEPR) trade that I did on May 18, yielding a good 4.14% gain. My biggest loser was the (SPSN) trade on May 22, which I lost -1.59%.
Fixed Principal vs. R-Factor
This month, I also started keeping track of 2 different approaches when I tried to price my size per trade.
The first approach is what I called the $5k approach. I based all trades out of $5000 principal. (i.e. if Share XYZ is $500/share, I will just buy 10 shares.) I am fully aware that this approach is NOT going to win me anything in real life. I’m applying this approach just so that I can gauge the accuracy of my observation on different setups, as well as to track the number of winning and losing trades. This method is not too much about winning amount. Anyway, under this $5k approach, my result for this month is +$185.70. However, this is before trade commissions of $189.81 (@ $9.99 1-way). Therefore my $5k approach would have only yielded me a -$4.11. Shockingly, at only 33% win-rate, I still managed to break-even after commissions.
My other approach is the more commonly used R-factor approach that I learned from the Traders in the Blogging community. Under the R-factor approach, when I set my R to $100.00, my performance was +$55.75 after commissions. And if I set my R to $150.00, my performance for May would yield +$173.53 after commissions.
Summary
Overall, my trade performance in May was totally unacceptable. I would only give myself a grade of D. I made some very poor decisions based on absolutely nothing but unproven speculations/anticipations. I was lucky not to loose big only because of my (SEPR) trade (I almost want to take it out of my calculations so that the statistics . Otherwise, I don’t think a winning rate of 33% would end up with so little damage.
I hope that I will get back to more trading for June. I am desperately in need for many more practices. However, the fact that I didn’t have much opportunities to trade in May, had painted a very good realistic picture of what just might happen in real life! So what if I can profit $x per day from ‘closet trading’ at work? If my work schedule doesn’t even allow me to trade, $x multiply by zero days is still zero! This is totally something that I need to keep in mind.

200704 - Month-end Review (Paper)
Since I switched back to Paper Trading, the results are somewhat promising in my opinion.
Total Trades: 21
Winning Trades: 13 (~62%)
Losing Trades: 8 (~38%)
Profit/Loss: $221.27
Commissions: ($419.58)
Total Profit/Loss: ($198.31)
% Profit/Loss: -0.50%
One thing that I want to note is that all individual trades are based on a $5000.00 purchase, regardless of the price of the stock. My primary objective for April, is to monitor the accuracy of my observation on Entry and Exit points. That's why I kept the separate entry to track the commissions, which I believe it can help me to gauge the effect if I want to evaluate other online brokers' commission structure.
What I want to focus on, is the number of Winning Trades vs Losing Trades. In this case, a 62% win is encouraging to me.

April concluded with a major change... back to Paper Trades!
I decided to switched back to Paper Trades because I felt that I was 'short cutting the learning curve.' Below is a summary of my real money trades from April 2-April 19...
Total Trades: 7
Winning Trades: 3
Losing Trades: 4
Profit/Loss: ($223.28)
Commissions: ($139.86)
Total Profit/Loss: ($363.14)
% Profit/Loss: -0.91%
Which brings my Total Profit/Loss of my first 2 months of trading to: ($816.58)
This is/was the reason why I decided to go back to Paper Trading.

200703 - Month-end Review
This concludes my first month of daytrading. Overall, I would give myself a D- grade. I was taking way too many unnessary risks, and being impatience with my entry. But this is only my first month! Although not a valid excuse, I simply cannot expect to come out winning right away. After all, winning right off the start might not even be a good thing. I don't want to be over-confident!
Looking at my Google Spreadsheet, it shows that I made 14 trades this month. From the 14 trades, I managed to drop $213.68. But wait, there is also $279.72 in trade commission! Add them up will come to a total loss of $493.40, or -1.23% off a $40k principal.
I don't know if it's good or bad. All I know if I want to improve on it. We'll find out how April goes!
